I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not to continue this series I’ve started. The first week into this series I lost a loved one.
While I continued posting in the following weeks, it was a challenge dealing with life, grieving, and enjoying life. But during that time, I learned how God and good habits can help you through difficult times.
Weeks have gone by and not only have I lost my brother, but my mother as well. These tragedies have been difficult to process BUT God has remained faithful. This season of life is teaching me how to trust, love, and follow God.
And while some days feel light and easy, others are sometimes more challenging. God tells us in scripture that He will never leave or forsake us. So, God knows that we will face trials and tribulations in life and I’ve discovered that only through Jesus can we experience true comfort, joy, peace, and healing.
In today’s post, I share a few practical ways that I am trusting God while grieving. So, whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one, job, relationship, disappointment, or something you cherished. Here are 5 ways to trust God while grieving.
My Self-Care Activities For Grief
A few things that are helping me through this difficult season are:
- Following an effective daily routine.
- Reading my Bible.
- Praying at the start of my day and throughout my day.
- Nourishing my body with movement, staying hydrated, and having a balanced diet.
- Journaling whatever I’m feeling.
- Making time for hobbies.
- Cherishing lost loved ones.

How To Trust God While Grieving
1. Allow Yourself To Grieve
Allowing yourself to grieve and process loss is part of your healing journey. And while you may never fully heal from loss, this can help you manage strong emotions. I’ve noticed that these emotions come in waves and sometimes unexpectedly.
We can’t change what has happened but we can control our approach towards both grief and life. And I’ve found it possible only through faith and intentional time with God.
2. Practice Thankfulness
Another way to trust God while grieving is to have a thankful heart. Showing thankfulness even when life is difficult can welcome peace, comfort, and the love we need during times of loss.
Showing gratitude towards anyone you’ve lost and the impact they’ve made in your life can help you see God’s goodness. When you appreciate God placing someone in your life, you learn how to keep your focus on Him.
It may seem impossible to keep moving forward in life, but with the help of God, you can do anything you put your mind to.
3. Find Scriptures For Comfort & Guidance
Using God’s Word as your light through dark times can help you walk in faith. He is with us through both the good and bad times.
However, we must lean and rely on Him. There isn’t anything that scripture can’t walk us through in life. Whether if you’re anxious, worried, hopeless, or experiencing any other strong emotions while grieving.
Finding a few scriptures that you can cling to can help you stay rooted and keep your focus on Christ rather than the circumstances.
4. Pray Your Way Through It
Prayer is such a powerful and effective way to deepen your faith. Losing a loved one is never easy. And this has been the most challenging thing I’ve dealt with.
One thing I’ve found true is that I am thankful for having 24/7 access to God. Whether it’s through reading The Bible, listening to worship music, or praying and talking to Him about everything that I’m facing.
All in all, losing a loved one isn’t something that you can easily heal from. Grief is a journey that each individual must learn how to manage in a unique way to live a fulfilling and joyful life.
5. Find Joy In Christ
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in life is that I can’t enjoy life the way God intends for me unless I allow Him to lead me.
This means that I must seek Jesus when life is good and when it isn’t. One way I can do this is by being creative in how I spend time with God. Creating daily habits will allow me to grow in faith and live as the woman He created me to be.
