Let’s be honest. When we’re young and carefree, we have an ideal vision of what we’d love for our life to be like once we’re on our own. You see yourself living beyond your wildest dreams, which consist of working at your dream job, marrying your soulmate, buying a house, traveling the world, starting a family, or just having the freedom to live life by your terms.
One thing I’ve learned since being on my own is that you grow through life, through experiences. So, what happens when life doesn’t go as planned or turns out to be more complicated than you imagined?
In today’s world, it’s so easy to fall into the mix of things and get lost in the standards of what others may believe to be acceptable. You may even lose sight of who you truly are because you’re busy chasing the image of what society may label you to be. Therefore, you should always love yourself unapologetically and silence any negativity. Today, I’ll be sharing with you 5 lies that are holding you back from thriving and living life authentically.
5 LIES TO STOP BELIEVING
1. MONEY CAN BUY HAPPINESS
Money can do a lot of things. However, I’ve never been one to believe that money can buy you happiness. Yes, money can get you many things and take you to beautiful places in life. When managed well, it’ll also give you a sense of comfort and freedom.
Money takes away any financial stress allowing you to spend as you please if managed correctly. Besides, it’ll help when buying things that may bring some sort of happiness into your life.
Nonetheless, your happiness shouldn’t rely on things that money can buy. Eventually, it’ll wear off, and that feeling of “happiness” will only last so long. Instead, look at money as a tool that’ll help access the things you need or want to achieve in life.

2. BEAUTY IS DEFINED BY NUMBERS
There’s no way that a number defines beauty. From the number of likes, you may receive on a photo, your clothing sizes, or even the amount you see when stepping on the scale. None of these shall determine your beauty. True beauty comes from within, and you should always love yourself no matter what!
As women, we tend to be hard on ourselves and our body image. We hold ourselves to having the “perfect body” or believe we have to be a specific size to attract whatever it is that we want in life.
If there’s something that you don’t like about yourself, it’s okay to change it. However, you should always respect your body and be sure to make healthy decisions daily that your body will thank you for in the long run. Start embracing your flaws and practicing self-love. By doing so, you’ll attract genuine people into your life that love you for who you are!
3. YOUR PAST DETERMINES YOUR FUTURE
What you’ve been through doesn’t determine where you’re going. When you let go of the past, you’re able to grow and do things in life that you’ve never imagined. Therefore, allow yourself to be present each day without letting your past interfere with the blessings each season may bring.
4. SAYING YES TO EVERY OPPORTUNITY
One thing I’ve learned is that saying “yes” to everything doesn’t add happiness to your life. Especially when you find yourself committing to something you don’t want to do. You shouldn’t put yourself in an uncomfortable position.
It’s healthy to say “no” to things that you don’t want to do. When you spend a significant amount of time pouring into others and their obligations, it may become draining to you. Always put yourself first, and think about the outcome in every situation.
When you become more intentional with your decisions, not only are you giving yourself grace, but you’re doing things that’ll help you move forward in life. When you invest your time into the right things in life, it gives you the ability to show up at your best! Also, it’ll help you to do something you genuinely want to do in life.
5. YOU CAN DO IT ALL ON YOUR OWN
One of the lies that I had to let go was thinking I could do it all on my own. When you go through life thinking you’ve got everything all figured out and don’t need any help from others, you’re only setting yourself back. Furthermore, everyone needs a little help from someone at some point in life.
Sure, you may know how to master a particular area of your life. However, with help and a little guidance, you’ll learn and achieve much more! For instance, seek advice from others that have wisdom and experience to help you accomplish every goal you set for yourself.
One thing you can do is utilizing resources that are available to you. Whether you want to start a business, learn a new skill, adopt to a healthier lifestyle, or if you’re just wanting to thrive while navigating through life. There are tons of resources available on the internet, YouTube, courses, social media, and my favorite, podcast! All these sources can help you thrive in the areas where you desire to grow.
