So you just got engaged and can’t stop admiring your beautiful (not to mention) sparkling diamond ring! You never want to take it off, even when you’re doing your daily routines. This might seem like a good idea until you realize it’ll affect the appearance of your sparking symbol of love. Your ring is meant to last a lifetime, and the last thing you want to do is damage it or lose a diamond. Here are 5 tips to keeping your engagement ring looking its very best!
GET YOUR RING INSURED!
Insuring your ring is the first thing you need to do! Of course, you want to always hope for the best, but you should also take precautions and get your ring insured. You never know when you may accidentally misplace or damage your ring.
Have A Designated Home For Your Ring When You Take It Off.
Be sure to have a designated home just for your ring. Each time that you have to take it off (rarely), it should be in a safe place. I recommend using a pouch, jewelry box, or ring holder to store it while it’s not being worn. I keep my ring stored in a ring box that came with it. Therefore, my ring is always covered and secured. By having a designated home for my ring, I ALWAYS know where it’s at, and I don’t have to worry about my dog getting ahold of it or misplacing it myself.
Clean Your Ring Regularly
You love the sparkle of your ring. Everyday essentials that you use daily to look and feel good can be harmful to your ring and cause it to look or become dull. I personally go to my jeweler once a week to get my ring cleaned for free. (Did I mention it’s free!?) If you would like to DIY at home, then you could use an Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner that’ll also leave your precious gem sparkling!
Good Habits
From the moment you first wear your ring, you would want to get in a groove of always taking good care of it. You should never wear your ring while cleaning, working out, doing your hair, showering, swimming, or at the beach, etc. Harsh chemicals can wear away the metals and slowly erode the polish of your precious gemstones.
Yearly Checkups
It’s important to get your ring inspected twice a year. This allows your jeweler to perform their maintenance routine inspection so that they can check on your stones for any signs of loosening. Also, while you’re there, go ahead and get your ring professionally cleaned!
