10 Things To Stop Buying
Things I Stopped Buying To Save Money
1. MANICURES
The money you spend to maintain your nails every 2-3 weeks can add up fast. I’m so glad I broke this spending habit because it has saved me over $100 a month!
On the flip side: Do your nails at home using this Gel Nail Polish Starter Kit or give this Kiss Everlasting French 28 Piece Nail Kit a try.
2. GYM MEMBERSHIPS
I remember the days I paid for a membership that I didn’t use, which was a waste of money! Working out at home will save you so much money rather than going to the gym.
On the flip side: Go for a walk, jog in your neighborhood, or find an at-home workout you enjoy.
3. DINING OUT/FAST FOOD
Although dining out and fast-food restaurants are very convenient and save time, they are also quite expensive.
This took a while, but eventually, it has become easier, considering it helped me save so much money. I’ve been cooking more at home lately, and going out to eat is now a luxury for me.
On the flip side: Browse Pinterest for recipes and enjoy dinner at home.
4. MAKEUP
Personally, 96% of the time, I don’t wear makeup. Honestly, I still have tons of new and unused makeup products. However, when it comes to skincare I don’t mind buying products when I run out or want to try a new product.
On the flip side: Use what you have and save up for big purchases.
5. STARBUCKS
Going to Starbucks and spending $3-$6 on a drink daily adds up quickly! Ever since I’ve cut back on Starbucks, I don’t crave coffee as much. When I do want a coffee, I use my Keurig. Not to mention the amount of money I’ve saved with fewer Starbucks trips.
On the flip side: Make your own coffee at home using a Keurig.
6. NAME BRAND FASHION
Keeping up with trends will definitely drain your pockets. Honestly, you can find similar products that aren’t name-brand that look just as good without draining your bank account!
On the flip side: Shop smarter and get the look for less with sites like SHEIN, and Amazon.
7. MOVIE TICKETS
I love going to the movies and enjoying a great film, but I rarely go anymore. Movie tickets can be expensive, especially when you’re living a married life. My husband and I watch so many shows and movies in our Home Theater using our Amazon Firestick. I’ll take that over going to the movies any day!
On the flip side: Use Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Firestick.

8. NEW CLOTHES
I have so many clothes in my closet that’s never been worn or only been worn once! So, I don’t mind wearing things that I already have instead of buying new things when I have what I need.
On the flip side: Wear what you have and if it’s time to stock up on clothes, wait for the sales or shop on affordable sites like SHEIN and Amazon.
9. BOOKS
I’ve wasted so much money on books that I haven’t read, it’s ridiculous! I’ve found myself listening to podcasts more often, which are FREE and you can’t beat that!
However, if you love to read, I recommend going to your local library to rent a book or using Audible.
On the flip side: Rent out books from your local library, and listen to a podcast.
My favorite podcasts:
- Girls Night with Stephanie May Wilson
- Coffee Convos with Kail Lowry & Lindsey Chrisley
- Know For Sure Podcast
- For You From Eve
10. PLANNERS
You may call me crazy for even listing this, but if only you knew how many planners I’ve bought and stopped using them. So, I decided to make the switch to digital planning.
The planner I am using now has helped me be more productive and plan more effectively. So, I’m not purchasing another planner until next year!
On the flip side: Invest in a great planner that’s suitable for you.
