Things to do at the beginning of every month.
The best way to prepare for the upcoming month is to set aside time to reflect on your intentions. Each month, setting intentions can inspire change in the areas of life you wish to see change. While we tend to have a lot going on in our lives, we should always prioritize the important (and joyful) things.
The truth is, in the past, I didn’t care too much about planning the month out to improve productivity. This explains why I’ve always felt so overwhelmed with my responsibilities and why I find myself rushing to get things done. However, over time I’ve learned the importance of adding structure to my life.
Using the beginning of the month to your advantage will not only add balance to your life, but it’ll also save you mental stress by organizing your month and helping you get it all done. Here are 5 points to set yourself up for a successful month!
5 Things To Do At The Beginning Of The Month
How To Have A Successful Month
1. Plan Your Month
Knowing your plans for the month allows you to create an action plan to help you stay on track. Going into the month with an action plan can be helpful instead of waiting until the last minute, over-planning, or forgetting important dates and tasks.
Grab your planner and fill in your calendar by writing down important dates. I love planning work-related projects, date nights, birthdays, and other tasks that may need prioritizing.
I love using my Create Heart Work 2024 Everything Portrait Planner and Fun Stickers when planning. This planner makes planning and prioritizing exciting! It’s always something I look forward to doing.
2. Create A Budget
Knowing where your funds are going ahead of time is crucial! Also, it saves time and puts your mind at ease when you have a plan for your money. Therefore, knowing what to spend and what you can’t spend will make things much easier.
At the beginning of each month, I plan how I’d like to spend my money during that specific month. This usually consists of calculating my bills so I can set aside all that is needed. Then, I’ll pay myself by putting money into my savings account.
Next, I’ll figure out how much I’ll need for daily necessities such as groceries, gas, house essentials, etc. It’s crucial to have a grocery list before going to the store. This may help you avoid buying things you don’t need and make sure you get the things you do need.
After I’ve finished planning, I’ll be able to spend more freely! Since I’ll know my budget for each week/month, I’ll be able to spend money without overspending and I’ll have my bills paid. These cash envelopes are excellent for managing and tracking your expenses!
3. Make Improvements
As one month ends, another month begins. Reflecting on how the previous month can help you make improvements in the areas needed. Think about what you could do next month to improve your life and get clear on the habits you’ll need to start to make it happen.
Perhaps you worked hard and accomplished a few goals. Celebrate the highlights of that month and use that as motivation for the month ahead of you.
4. Set New Goals
Another thing that I like to do at the beginning of each month is to set goals that I would like to accomplish. Setting goals helps me to feel more motivated and encourages me to complete each task I set for myself.
I’ve learned that you can achieve goals by taking small actionable steps. Goal setting has also helped me become more consistent, and now I hold myself more accountable by committing to positive habits each day.
If there are some goals you’d love to crush this month, then jot them down and create a game plan. When doing so, you’ll want to be sure that you’re taking steps daily to achieve both short-term and long-term goals that you have set for yourself.
A few goals that I like to set for myself are:
- Daily movement of 65 minutes.
- Drink plenty of water to keep my body hydrated.
- Cut back on unnecessary spending.

5. Make Time For Self-Care
While it’s important to take care of all your responsibilities, it’s also important to be gentle with yourself. Maybe taking a break when needed or indulging in some therapeutic activities that are both relaxing and nourishing could help you practice self-care daily.
Self-care should be practiced as often as needed. Putting yourself first helps you to be able to show up at your best for others. You can’t give much if you’re running on empty and you must remember to pour into yourself.
Ways you can practice self-care:
- Give yourself a break.
- Live a healthy lifestyle.
- Surround yourself with positive people.
- Practice gratitude.
- Journal.
- Improve your faith.
