How To Spend Time With God
5 Ways To Spend More Time With God
1. Read His Word
Reading God’s Word is one of the most effective ways to spend time with Him. When you read the Bible you’re able to experience Him for yourself. You learn more about Him, His ways, how He sees you and it teaches you how to navigate life, whether you find yourself in a good season of life or a difficult one.
He offers clarity on how to live and keep Him first. By reading His Word you learn that He doesn’t expect you to be perfect or to figure things out on your own. The Bible is an invitation to get to know God better, examine yourself, and make your life more aligned to His ways.
We live in a world where it’s easy to allow opinions of others, our past, or even our own thoughts about ourselves make us forget who we truly are in Christ. The more you fill your mind and heart with His Word, the more you begin to walk in truth.
2. Remember That His Presence Is Always With You
It’s sometimes easy to forget that God is with us every moment of our lives. Although His presence never leaves us, our responsibilities, distractions, circumstances, work, and even or thoughts can become louder than God’s voice.
This becomes an issue because we may start to come up with solutions ourselves or attempt to do what only He can do. Which can lead to feeling overwhelmed, anxious, discouraged, and even hopeless.
But, the good news is that He is with you. However, you must remember to pause and invite Him into the moment. Not to remind Him, but to gently remind yourself that God is here in this moment, no matter how things may look or feel. This alone can bring clarity, calm, peace, and joy into any situation.
3. Surround Yourself With People Value Their Walk With God
Surrounding yourself with people believe in similar values and beliefs is a great way to connect with godly people, share your faith, and continue to grow your faith.
Personally, this was probably the hardest part for me. For so long, I enjoyed my alone time with God, and it even become comfortable. But I came to a point in my faith where it simply wasn’t enough.
It was very uncomfortable at first , but when push past the discomfort, God blesses every act of obedience. You may not see or feel it immediately, but as you continue to show up you’ll realize the impact of taking positive action in your faith. This not only helps you grow in your walk with God, but it blesses other aspects of your life as well!
4. Make Your Time With God Something You Look Forward To
Making your time with God something you look forward to allows real transformation to take place. Your time with God is less about setting the vibe and more about making your heart and mind available to Him, which allows you to receive His Word or what ever He may be showing you in that moment.
However, having a dedicated space free of distractions so that your focus is on Him will allow you to rest in His presence.
Your time with God may look different depending on the season of life you’re in. Some days you may have the time to sit for 30 minutes, and other days you may not.
One of the most effective ways I’ve learned how to stay consistent in spending time with God is allowing myself to spend time with Him in different ways. Here are a few simple and effective ways you can start spending more time with God and actually enjoy being in His presence:
- Read your Bible or listen to the Bible
- Listen to worship music and reflect on His goodness
- Do a daily devotional
- Start prayer journaling and write to God about all that is on your heart
- Pray throughout your day
- Apply what you learn to your daily life
- Invite Him into your daily moments and the things that you enjoy
5. Be Consistent And Stay Grateful
Spending time with God is important to knowing Him and aligning our hearts and lives to look more like His. The more consistent you are in your time with God, the more you benefit from it. It also becomes easier to extend the same love and kindness we receive from Him to others.
The truth is, it’s never solely about us, it’s about sharing His goodness with others.
So whatever your daily routine and schedule look like, it’s important to make your time with Him a priority and find unique ways to invite God into your life and heart each day.
Approaching Him with a grateful heart is a great reminder that you can trust Him and rely on Him no matter what.
