Lately, I’ve been focusing on improving my sleep and stress management.
Both can contribute to how you feel, how you show up, and the quality of your days, which make up your life as a whole.
No matter the season, getting quality rest, healthily managing stress, and taking a few moments to slow down can be very beneficial.
If you struggle with racing thoughts, bring the anxiety of the day into your evenings, or struggle to fall asleep, unwinding before bed can help ease your mind at the end of the day.

Here are 5 Simple Habits To Help You Unwind For The Day!💤⏾🌃🩶

Evening Routines To Unwind Before Bed
Bedtime Routine Ideas For Rest
1. Reading To Calm Your Mind
Even if you don’t consider yourself a reader, you’d be amazed at how therapeutic and relaxing it can be.
Reading allows you to truly be present and focus on whatever it is that you’re reading. Reading on my Kindle before bed has truly been so helpful when it comes to unwinding for the day.
As I am reading, I feel myself dozing off, relaxed, and my mind becoming clearer.
I like to read lighthearted or faith-based books before bed.
This helps me keep positive and light thoughts just before ending my day.
2. Journaling Or Praying To Clear Your Mind
Journaling is a powerful tool that you can use to unwind for the day, whether it’s during your evening routine or a few moments before going to bed.
Having a mind full of mental reminders, deadlines, or what needs to get done can impact your ability to fall asleep and the quality of your rest.
You may find it helpful to write down all or anything that is taking up space in your mind.
This may look like making a to-do list, prayer journaling, planning the next day, or even brain-dumping all that’s on your mind.
3. Simple Skincare Routine To Feel Refreshed
Unwinding before bed allows you to prepare yourself and your space for a restful night’s sleep.
Another great way to unwind before bed after a long or stressful day is to create a simple skincare routine.
There’s just something about signaling to your brain Hey, it’s time for bed by completing your skincare routine.
Your skin not only feels clean and hydrated, but it also keeps your skin glowing while asleep and ready for waking up in the morning.
4. Unplugging Before Bed
Setting healthy boundaries with your devices is another way you can better prepare yourself for bed.
This will look different for everyone, but looking at screens can take a toll on your sleep.
A few ways I try to be consistent with unwinding before bed, especially when it comes to sleep, are:
- Lowering the brightness on my phone or iPad
- Putting my phone on the charger away from the bed
- Unplugging digitally (except for my kindle) at least 30 minutes before bed
- Starting my evening routine earlier when I can
5. Connect With Loved Ones Throughout Your Day
Lastly, a great way to end your day is to know that you made time and created space for the people in your life.
You can prioritize this habit by sending a loved one a text, giving them a call, or spending time with them.
These are the moments that bring meaning and value into our lives.
This may not seem like it can impact your sleep, but it impacts you and your life overall. Staying connected with the people you value and appreciate in life can make all the difference.
Quality time with loved ones is one of the most precious blessings to embrace through both the good and difficult moments in life
