MIDYEAR RESET ESSENTIALS TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE

July 27, 2026

A midyear reset is a great time to reflect on your life, habits, and goals. It’s never too late, and you’re never too far off track to start being more intentional.

It’s also a great to time to let go of whats not working and make room for the things that will bring more meaning and joy into your life.

Rather than feeling behind, stuck, hopeless, or giving up on your goals, this is an invitation to pause, reflect, realign, and prioritize the things that actually matter.

Whether you want to experience growth in your health, finances, relationships, career, faith, or achieving a goal, it all starts with acknowledging where you are and then taking small steps that gradually lead to true, lasting change.

I’ve been doing midyear resets for several years now, and I can honestly say that taking the time to pause and be honest with myself has led to growth in ways that I never knew were possible.

You no longer are just living life and going with the flow. Midyear resets also encourage you to let go things, mindsets, habits, and unhealthy patterns that may be hindering you in some way.

It’s a time to really sit with yourself and dream beyond your fears, circumstances, and the limitations you may have set for yourself.

So whenever you find this post, I hope that it encourages you to show up exactly as you are, while also knowing that change is possible. But it starts with a present, grateful, and willing heart.

1. Start A Journal Practice

There are so many powerful ways to use a journal. Before I started journaling, I felt confused and didn’t know what to write.

But then I started using my journal to write my prayers. And this allowed me to truly take all the thoughts, ideas, and even fears out of my head and onto paper. All this to say, journaling could look like just writing down whatever is on your mind.

You may begin to feel calmer and more clear minded as you become consistent in writing down your thoughts.

Journaling is an effective way to separate yourself from your thoughts, fears, and emotions. By writing down your thoughts and feelings, you’re able to gain perspective on the negative thoughts that may be influencing your decisions.

Journaling can be the one reflective place that you have you have to track the good and release any heavy emotions you may be experiencing.

However, if you want to journal specifically for a midyear reset and shift your perspective, here are a few ways you can do just that:

  • Create Heart Work Digital Faith Journal (currently using)
  • Faith Over Fear Guided Journal by Happy Planner

2. Invest In A Planner That You’ll Actually Use

Planning is something that, when done effectively, can give you clarity and direction. Finding a planner that works for you, with your brain, that you actually enjoy can help you thrive.

You’ll discover that as you consistently use your planner for its design, it’ll give you the gentle push and reminders to help you stay and even get back on track.

One of the most important parts about planning is that once you create a system that works, it’s wise to stick with it so that you aren’t switching planners regularly. Simply because this takes away time and energy that could be used to take action and actually live out your life.

3. Be Mindful Of Your Habits And Routines

Another thing you may find helpful during your midyear reset is adjusting, adding to, or even letting go of habits or routines that no longer align with your goals.

Some habits and routines may have served you well in one season.

Life, priorities, responsibilities, schedules, and even circumstances change. To work towards achieving your goals, sometimes the most helpful thing to do is to zoom out and look at the big picture.

This can help you see where you are, what changes need to be made, and simplify the process.

Simplifying your life is a realistic way to create real change. By doing so, you’re taking small steps with purpose.

Even without using a planner, having intentional habits and routines can be extremely powerful. Using a habit tracker will give you a visual overview of your consistency, which can both encourage and motivate you to get/stay on track.

4. Create A Plan Of Action For Direction

When you begin to realize that your goals aren’t going to complete themselves, you get to decide whether you want to pursue them or not.

Meaning, there may be goals, milestones, or growth you’d like to accomplish. However, you must be willing to show up even before seeing a reward and results for your hard work.

Although you may not see change immediately, the more consistent and disciplined you become along the way, the more momentum you build to actually make your goals a reality.

Having a plan of action keeps you on track by creating systems that work to guide you to completing the necessary steps to reach your deadlines efficiently.

5. Prioritize Time For Fun🫧🦋

While a midyear reset is for getting focused and realigned, you don’t want to miss out on the beauty of life.

Life is meant to be enjoyed and lived well.

This can be achieved by creating a life of balance, which will look different for each person, by making time for fun, family, and loved ones, hobbies, and anything that adds joy to your life.

One of the most helpful things I’ve learned in this area is simplifying the tasks that I enjoy and the ones that I don’t enjoy doing, but that still play a major role in my goals, growth, and responsibilities. A few ways you can make time for fun in your life are:

  • engaging in hobbies that you enjoy weekly or even daily
  • making time for the people in your life
  • romanticizing even the tiniest details in your life
