Starting a creative journey can be something you do as a hobby or something that you monetize and earn from. The goal is to enjoy the journey, have fun, and be authentic.
I believe the most important thing to consider when starting anything in life is making sure it aligns with your values and that you keep it unique by being yourself.
It takes courage to do something you’ve never done before, but if there’s a creative project, pursuit, or passion that you’ve been wanting to try, this is your sign to start!
In today’s post, I’ll be sharing simple and realistic ways to start creating. Whether it’s just for fun or something you want to take seriously, here is your gentle guide to starting a creative journey.

A Gentle Guide To Starting Your Creative Journey
5 Simple Steps To Starting A Creative Journey
1. Choose Something That Aligns With Your Values
In order to create things of value, you must believe in what you’re creating. Meaning, it must align with your values so that you can show up authentically.
Creating from any place beyond that will make it more difficult to show up, and it won’t be something you look forward to doing.
Depending on your creative journey and purpose for doing so, it’s important to have a foundation.
Simply because if you’re wanting to create someone that you’re proud of, whether it’s for yourself or others, this in my opinion, is what makes it uniquely you!
2. Do Your Research
This probably one of my favorite things to do when every I’m considering starting something new, refining someone already created, or brainstorming ideas. This part doesn’t has to be complicated or overly done either.
You can take a course on a specific topic, watch videos that are helpful, read books to become more knowledgeable, listen to podcasts, or even do your own research.
Researching whatever it is you’re pursuing can give you a sense of directing without making things overwhelming. Simply because too much research can be discouraging cause you to give up before even trying.
Which is why I recommend researching and making your creative journey one that that you are continuously learning how to sharpen your skills and improve your work.
3. Create Realistic Goals That You Can Achieve
Rather than focusing on perfection, outcomes, and things beyond your control, choose to focus on your effort, skills, growth, and having fun while creating.
This alone will encourage you to be consistent in what you’re doing. Simply because you’re creating from a space of peace, joy, and truly allowing yourself to be present.
This isn’t to say it will be an easy journey but it may release some of the pressure or resistance you may be experiencing to see a certain outcome.
This can be achieved through creating actionable steps that you can complete to actually make your goals a reality rather than just an idea.
By doing so, you shift your focus from the goal itself, and instead, you focus on doing the work that will consequently help you gradually achieve any goal you set for yourself.
4. Start Creating!
Now to the fun part!
Having clarity in who you are as a person, having an understanding of what you’re doing, and your purpose for creating makes this process so much enjoyable and worthwhile.
From choosing your personal style to simply doing something that brings you joy, creativity can make a positive impact on how you see your life, others, and the beautiful things you get to experience along the way.
Creating anything that you believe in can help bring purpose, meaning, depth, and opportunities into your life.
It reminders you of your why, and if you’re creating anything for others, a creative pursuit can help you live a fuller life beyond yourself.
