The holiday season is just around the corner, and I must say it’s my favorite time of the year! There are many beautiful things about this season, and there’s a lot that comes with it as well.
Not to mention, holiday festivities, and Christmas shopping! It’s always that feeling of joy around this time, and every moment is memorable.
Here are 6 ways you can avoid feeling broke after the holidays and not miss out on all the holiday fun!
CREATE BUDGET AND STICK TO IT
Although it’s the season of giving, you should keep your finances in mind while enjoying this holiday season. Being that you will indulge in holiday festivities and holiday shopping, you’ll need to know how much money you intend to spend. Therefore, you won’t drain your bank account.
I can admit, I love gifting others with meaningful gifts and enjoying everything this season has to offer. However, before going into the holiday season, I know how much I’ll spend on gifts and what events I’ll be attending.
Before starting your holiday shopping, take a look at your funds. From there, determine how much money you can put towards Christmas gifts without it affecting your monthly expenses.
Since you’ve figured out what you have to spare, it’s now time to create your holiday budget. I’ve found it extremely helpful to cut back on spending leading into the holidays. Also, this is an easy way to add money to your holiday funds and have a little extra cash to put towards gifts.
Lastly, setting your budget for the holidays, creating a list of everyone, and everything you’ll be shopping for is another way to survive the holidays. By doing so, this will help you stick with your budget and prevent overspending!
SHOP ONLINE
My favorite way to save money and time during the holidays is to shop online. There are other ways as well, but this one happens to be my favorite! No matter what you’re shopping for, there are websites like Amazon and apps like Ibotta, that you can use to make sure you’re getting a bang for your bucks.
Another reason I enjoy shopping online, especially during the holiday season, is not having to deal with the crazy holiday traffic. I enjoy being out and about, but during this time, I’d much rather snuggle in, drink hot cocoa, and enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies. All while still getting my holiday shopping done!
What’s a better way to shop than shopping online, in your pajamas, and getting everything shipped to your doorstep? Pretty cool, right!?
HOST A GATHERING
The holidays are typically spent with your family and loved ones for some quality time together. Times like this make these moments so unique. Even spending time with friends could be a special moment during the holiday season also.
This time of the year can be challenging. Not just financially, but mentally too. When you’re trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list and other holiday essentials? That money can add up pretty quickly!
Instead of eating out, host a gathering! Invite your loved ones over for a holiday dinner. Ask each guest to bring a dish of their choice so that everyone will have a great selection of food, desserts, and drinks. You can also brainstorm a list of items for your gathering, and each guest could bring something from the list.
DIY GIFTS
Are you struggling to stay within your budget? If so, you may want to consider doing it yourself. There are tutorials on how to make particular gifts, instead of going to the store to purchase any item. Any handmade gift is a very thoughtful gift!
It’s lovely to receive a gift that someone bought, but when given a thoughtful gift that you can’t buy in stores, it is priceless. Before going out and buying a gift, decide whether or not if you could DIY.
Making a gift for someone special in your life is a great way to add your creative touch to their present. Besides, it’s more affordable, and it’ll help you save money during the holidays.
You can also make a gift basket instead of buying one from a store. Baking treats can also be another form of a gift as well. If there’s something you’re great at, find a way to gift others with your products or services.
START SHOPPING EARLY
Don’t hesitate to start shopping early or offseason. Many stores have significant sales events throughout the year. Starting your shopping earlier will save you money and help get your shopping done ahead of time. Therefore, this will result in saving yourself the stress and allowing you to treat yourself once it’s Christmas time!
SHOP SALES
Taking advantage of sale items is another great way to save money during the holiday season. Shopping sales and buying your holiday gifts at a discounted price will help you find great deals, instead of paying full price for the merchandise. Especially, when you can get it at a lower price!
The best times to shop for your holiday gifts are Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Whether you’re shopping online or in the stores, it’s the perfect time to start your gifts for the holidays.
Most retailers have fabulous sales running until Christmas. Therefore, this gives you more than enough time to find high-quality gifts for everyone on your list and score some great deals in the process!
