Having effective ways to reduce stress and practice self-care during the busiest time can help you feel more calm and joyful.

Winter is my favorite time of the year, with holiday festivities and more time indoors it’s important to revamp your self-care routine for the wintertime.

Since the changes in season can have an impact on your mood, it’s helpful to have self-care ideas for a pick-me-up or to help maintain happiness for the winter.

In today’s post, I’ll share self-care ideas for winter to inspire joy and happiness in your daily life.

1. Create A Christmas Music Playlist

Listening to holiday music is such a great mood booster and a simple way that you can get in the holiday spirit. Spotify is a great place to create your own Christmas music playlist or listen to one that is already made.

2. Solve A Holiday Themed Puzzle

Holiday-themed puzzles are something that has grown on me over the years. Solving a holiday puzzle is a great screen-free activity that you can enjoy with holiday music playing in the background along with a warm cup of hot chocolate.

3. Spend More Time Outdoors

Although it may be a lot cooler outdoors going outside can be a fantastic way to enjoy the crisp winter weather. There are many activities that you can enjoy outdoors this season such as, building a snowman, going for walk, or simply enjoying your warm morning coffee outdoors while making the most of this season.

4. Take A Ride And Look At Christmas Lights

Going to see Christmas lights in your neighborhood is so much fun. There are so many Christmas lights and decorations that you can view in your local area and get in the Christmas spirit. This is a fun tradition that my husband and I have been doing over the years and driving through our area and seeing the lights is something I look forward to each year!

5. Watch A Hallmark Christmas Movie

Hallmark has tons of holiday movies for the winter and Christmas time. Curling up under a blanket and enjoying a holiday movie will help you to feel all the feels and is a great way to relax after a long day!

6. Bake A Holiday Treat

Bake Christmas treats.

Trying new desserts is always fun whether it’s seasonal flavored cupcakes, muffins, cakes, cookies, or a recipe you find on Pinterest. Baking during the winter season not only fills your home with a delightful scent but is also a great way to be present and focus on creating a delicious dessert.

7. Start Journaling

The wintertime is one of the busiest times of the year with Christmas and the New Year approaching you may feel overwhelmed or stressed. Starting a journal during this time of you can be so beneficial to your health and wellbeing. Taking a few moments each day to write down how you’re feeling is a great way to let go of negative feelings and thoughts. Having a journal and practicing gratitude daily has helped me bring more joy into my life and appreciate all the beauty that surrounds me.

8. Do A Digital Detox

Doing a digital detox is great to do at any time of the year however, during the holiday season life can get a bit messy. This is why I’d recommend doing a digital detox to help bring a little more peace into your life and so that you can focus on cherishing your loved ones and making the most of your daily life.

9. Start A Fitness Challenge

Starting a new fitness challenge is a great way to stay fit during the winter. Even if you are wanting to stay fit without going to a gym. Blogilaties has some pretty awesome total body workouts that you do at home.

10. Let Go Of A Bad Habit

With the year coming to an end, now would be a great time to reflect, set goals, and let go of any bad habits that are holding you back from being the person you want to be or achieving the goals you’ve set. By doing so, you’re able to go into the new year with a vision and form new habits that are aligned with your goals.

11. Make A Warm & Hearty Soup

With the cold weather, you’ll probably want to have a few hearty soups to keep you warm this winter. Making soup with seasonal veggies and spices is another great way to show yourself some love and kick off soup season!

Although the holiday season is more about giving and less about receiving, it’s important to be kind to yourself. Even if that means treating yourself to a Starbucks drink, buying yourself something special, or simply pampering yourself. So give it to yourself without feeling any guilt because you deserve it!

13. Decorate Your Home For Christmas

Decorating my space for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve noticed that having Christmas decorations throughout the home adds warmth to the heart and has a positive impact on my productivity and overall wellness. It’s just something about seeing the Christmas tree decorated and lit up that puts me in a joyous mood.

14. Do A Random Act Of Kindness

A random act of kindness can go a long way. And while the holiday season is a cheerful time of year, being generous, and showing love and kindness to someone can brighten their day. Simple acts of kindness that you can do are: opening a door for a stranger, complimenting someone, paying it forward on your next trip to the coffee shop, giving someone a “just because” gift, or simply checking on a loved one.

15. Start A New Hobby

Now that you’ll probably be spending more time inside where it’s warm and toasty you can tap into your creativity. Finding a hobby that allows you to shift your focus and create can help reduce stress. Having a winter hobby helps me to be present and is a creative way to calm my mind. There are many activities that you can do this winter such as scrapbooking, painting, dancing, and writing.

16. Read A Book

Reading is another get self-cafe idea for the winter. Whether it’s listening to an audiobook or grabbing an actual book to rea, now is a great time to get into reading and discovering new books!

17. Learn How To Say No

Prioritizing your peace is crucial, especially during the holiday season. This is why learning to say no and not feeling the need to say yes to everything will help you to reduce stress, not overcommit yourself and set healthy boundaries in both your personal and professional life.

18. Have Fun!

Nonetheless, life is meant to be enjoyed. Not just during this time of year but every day. So be sure to make time for fun activities and surround yourself with positive people and create memories this winter so that you may be cheerful and enjoy your every moment.
