7 Self Care Night Activities To Help You Unwind
Self-Care Ideas For Your Night Routine
1. Journal
If you often find yourself unable to sleep due to racing thoughts. You may want to consider journaling before bed. Whether you’re thinking about things that need to get done or de-stress and let go of some unwanted feelings.
Journaling is a great way to declutter and calm your mind. By putting your thoughts on paper, you can reflect on each day positively. No matter if you’ve had a good or bad day. Writing down your thoughts will help you have a more peaceful sleep.
2. Use An Essential Oil Diffuser
Unwinding before bed, I love to set my mood by turning on my essential oil diffuser. Most nights, I like to use Lavender Oil for its relaxation and calming properties.
This creates a sleep environment that helps put my mind at ease. I use this Essential Oil Diffuser from Amazon. I love this essential oil diffuser because it has 4 built-in timer settings. Also, it shuts off automatically after the timer is set and has 7 calming color options that can be used as a night light!
Using aromatherapy to help you relax will create a calming oasis while making your home smell amazing.
3. Read A Book
Have you ever started reading a book and noticed that you become tired and find it impossible to keep your eyes open? If so, then perhaps reading a book before bed could help ease your mind.
Reading for at least 30 minutes before bed can help you shut down your mind and prepare you for dreamland. You could read an inspirational book, something fictional, or a book you’ve been wanting to finish.
I’m currently reading “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?” by Mindy Kaling. On nights that I need to relax, I grab this book and read a chapter from this entertaining book!
4. Enjoy A Warm Cup Of Tea
Another great way to relax and unwind before bed is to enjoy a warm cup of tea. Herbal tea has many health benefits that’ll make it easier for you to relax and clear your mind so you can get plenty of rest!
I like to drink non-caffeinated teas. Therefore, I don’t have to worry about being up all night. A few of my favorites are Chamomile, Peppermint, Tazo’s Glazed Lemon Loaf Tea, and Teavana’s Peach Tranquility Tea.
5. Unplug From Your Devices
Sometimes, it can become a distraction with our devices always being within arms reach. That can take up too much of our time. From replying to messages to scrolling on social media for long periods of time.
This isn’t something you should do 2-3 hours before bed.
I’ve learned that having a designated time to shut off my laptop and put away my phone has helped me limit my screen time and bring balance into my life. By limiting the amount of time you spend on your device(s), you’ll give yourself enough time to clear your mind. Which will help you focus on getting rest for the day that’s ahead of you!
6. Prayer
There isn’t anything more powerful than prayer. Taking a few moments before bed to reflect on my day and sharing any thoughts or concerns with God, allows me to let go of unwanted feelings.
By doing so, you’re allowing yourself to end the night on a positive note. You could also try prayer or meditation, followed by deep breathing. Prayer also has the ability to reduce worry and stress.
So, if you find yourself anxious before bed try saying a prayer to release your worries so that you can rest with ease.
7. Spend Time With A Loved One
When life gets busy, it can be difficult to set aside for the most important people in our lives. Adulting isn’t easy, and with work and our day-to-day responsibilities, sometimes all we need is some quality time with the people closest to us. Whether it’s your spouse, children, pet, or some time for yourself. Use this time to nourish yourself and your loved ones.
