HOW TO START GROWING IN FAITH

September 11, 2020

Growing your faith in God is all about living a more intentional life. When you decide to focus on your spiritual growth and live a meaningful life you began to start enjoying your daily life.

It can be challenging to be consistent with growing our relationship with God. Life is full of many surprises that we try to navigate and solve on our own.

So, what do we do after we’ve tried it our way and it doesn’t work out? We run to Christ for answers and ask him to fix our mess or give us a sign that we’re on the right path.

One thing I’ve learned is that we can save ourselves the stress, pain, and time if we start keeping God first in all that we do. Although it’s easier said than done, it’s more than possible to make God a part of your everyday life.

I never thought I’d experience the spiritual growth that I have. With time, you can better your relationship with God, and as a result, you’ll be able to enjoy those blessings God has placed in your life.

And guess what? It’s never too late! Here are 5 ways to grow your faith!

How To Start Growing In Faith

How To Grow In Faith As A Christian

1. Read The Bible Daily

As I’m writing this post, I can’t help but reflect on how much reading the bible at an early age has made an impact on my life.

Reading God’s word will give you direction and guidance to get through ANYTHING at any point in your life. Like times when you’re stressed, feeling overwhelmed, lost, or even if you’re happy. I find the Bible to be my safe place. Where I can find comfort, fuel my soul, get to know God better, and discover the promises of God.

God wants you to allow Him to do amazing things in your life. He wants you to live a life that you enjoy and share the good things that He’s doing in your life with others.

If you’re struggling to make time for God, start prioritizing your day around your time with God. Such as starting your day by spending 5 minutes in the Word, or beginning a daily devotion and prayer. Even if it’s a few scriptures a day, ease into this transition in a way that’s comfortable for you.

2. Let Go Of Control

During the most difficult seasons of life, it’s relatively easy to focus on everything that’s going on around you. However, it may cause you to be anxious over your circumstances while not knowing how things will one day get better.

Fully letting go and trusting God to work things out is an area where I would find myself struggling the most. Although I’ve always considered myself a good woman in faith, it took going through life to know where I placed God in my life entirely.

Notice, I said, “Where I placed God in my life.” That certainly meant more than going to church on Sunday, followed by brunch.

The truth is, God is with you in all that you do. You’re never going through anything alone. He knows your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and everything you need to fulfill the life that He has created for you. So whatever you’re facing, give to God, because He cares! Once you began to release anything overwhelming you and not worry about how God is going to work things out, then you’ll start to experience God’s peace within your life.

3. Trust God With The Big And Small Things

Another great way to improve your faith is by trusting God, and the plan that He has for your life. God knows of every desire that’s in your heart and wants you to live a life that you enjoy. Of course, there are plans for your life that you may have already made, but God’s plans are even better!

Stay positive through any and every situation! Going through the motions isn’t fun. However, I do believe that every obstacle you encounter is an opportunity to trust God and strengthen your faith.

Sometimes, we may think that we have it figured out and know everything takes time to get where we want to be in life. Sometimes we often get distracted by how things should be, to the point where we lose sight of the big picture. That is, trusting that God has a bigger and better plan, and He’s working things out for your good.

Start releasing the thought of “HOW” God is going to fulfill your needs and begin believing that He’s already working. Even if you don’t see any changes instantly, He’s always working!

4. Talk To God About Everything

Communication is an essential element of a relationship. Take a moment to think about the most influential people in your life. Each day you nourish those relationships by communicating with them to maintain a healthy relationship.

Also, this is very important when it comes to your relationship with God.

Talking to God is something that you can do anywhere, anytime, and in any place. Growing up, I thought I had to pray out loud for God to hear me. However, this is certainly not the case!

Over the years, I’ve learned that I can talk to God, knowing that He has all the answers. When I need it the most, he comforts me and keeps me at peace.

Therefore, I talk to God when I’m in nature, driving, in the store, or anytime I start feeling anxious; I’ll pray. Praying and talking to God every day has improved my faith and has allowed me to flourish in other areas of my life.

A few ways you can talk to God daily:

  • Pray for others.
  • Pray to God to express your gratitude.
  • Pray when you began to worry.
  • Pray when you just need someone to talk to.

5. Find A Community

Life isn’t meant to be gone through alone.

It’s best to have an intimate relationship with God. However, having a community when it comes to your faith is just as important to strengthen your faith.

I always remind myself that life isn’t just about me. It sounds pretty odd at times, but I find it to be true. When you have faith in God, you began to learn that the things you experience in life are never really 100% about you. It’s those experiences that God uses to grow our faith, better ourselves, and become a blessing to others.

When you connect with others in life through your experiences, it lets them know that they’re not alone. Having a community that you can share, learn, and talk about God with, can help strengthen your faith. Having a Christian community will also help you learn from others, study the Bible, and socialize with like-minded people that love Jesus!

A few ways to find a Christian community are:

  • Finding a church home.
  • Joining a small group.
  • Finding an online community.
  • Listening to faith-based podcasts.
