Joy is something that can be developed by anyone. It is often mistaken for happiness, but it’s much deeper than that.

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit that we can receive fully from God. You’ll discover over time that once you have it and pursue your faith daily, it’s something that can’t be taken away from you.
Joy is steady, everlasting, and never runs out. Happiness, on the other hand, may be determined by our moods, environments, life, achievements, or anything, whether big or small.
When our joy is rooted in God, it becomes something beautiful to experience and reflect.
Often, we don’t realize how much joy has sustained us until we look back on a difficult season and recognize that it guided, restored, and strengthened us.
When thinking of my personal journey, it’s very difficult to explain the impact it has made on my life.
Simply because I believe my joy and faith in God carried me through my most difficult seasons of grief and loss.
The best way I can describe joy is allowing God to be everything He desires to be in your life, especially in your healing and your future.
What this looked like for me was living a fuller, intentional life and allowing myself to actually enjoy life.
Joy helped me learn how to take the next step and taught me how to start living life in a new way, while at the same time accepting that I’m creating a new normal and that my life was changed forever.
It gave me a new meaning and outlook on life.

Here are a few ways you can add joy to your life!💛🍋🪞✝️
How To Add Joy To Your Life (Internally & Externally)
Habits To Cultivate Authentic Joy
1. Joy Internally
No matter what season of life you’re in, joy is available through both the good and bad. Sometimes the condition of our heart, circumstances, feelings, or emotions can become a filter in how we think and live.
But if you’re seeking joy, it starts from within. This may look like taking a few moments to process anything weighing you down spiritually, emotionally, or mentally.
The more you release and let go of, the easier it becomes to replace self-doubt, fear, negativity, and any other unhealthy patterns with truth.
This begins to reshape the way you think, how you respond to triggers, your interactions with others, and how you even think about yourself.
Habits that you can start to add joy into your life internally are:
- Genuine prayer – pray outloud to God or write it down in your journal
- reading your Bible regularly to heal and replace negative thinking patterns
- staying organized and managing your time to reduce mental stress and overwhelm
- thinking positively – avoids getting into negative thinking that can hinder your joy and healing
2. Joy Externally
Once you become aware of what’s going on internally, it may reveal why certain habits, actions, and routines exist in your daily life.
Sometimes we may think it’s impossible to change our lives or experience joy, but that just isn’t the truth.
While growth takes time and consistency, change is possible by redirecting your time, attention, and focus to the things that matter.
Joy is cultivated through a combination of movement and momentum aligned with your values.
Being intentional about how you spend your time and how you choose to live your life gives you meaning behind each action you take.
Joy externally is reflected in how you treat others, what you produce, your interests and hobbies, and the overall quality of your life.
A few ways to add joy to your life externally are:
- taking nature walks
- limiting your screen time
- connecting with family and loved ones throughout the day/week
- nourishing your body with balanced meals and staying hydrated
- working on a passion, goal, or hobby for 30 minutes a day
- trying something new
- creating a daily routine that aligns with your values and goals
- start a creative journey
- be present in every moment
